The Right to Science and Citizen Science

The right to science goes back to the founding human rights instruments, especially the the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948. It's not a legally binding instruments, it's a declaration. The intention within the UN was to have one document drawn up afterwards that would make all the rights outlined in the Universal Declaration legally binding on ratifying states. But they couldn't agree. So we didn't get one instrument, but two that made the rights outlined legally binding. Article 15 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights is the one that those of us who are interested in the right to science work with.
