I don't know what era of the Napoleonic era doesn't hold a lot of fascination for me. I do have fond memories of studying it in history class because I had a good teacher and I did well on the tests, but that's crucial. That there was quote, too much plot, not enough lifestyle, which Cornwell did not take as an insult coming from Patrick O'Brien. They're both playing in the lineage of the Horatio Hornblower books by CM Forster. Apparently he read a bunch of those books as a kid. Those are all like set on Navy ships. So I wrote an army guy.
