Typhus and the Lazaretto

Typhus is a product of shipboard environments that were designed to generate profits pure and simple. If it wasn't rickettsia provisecki it would have been a different pathogen. Typhus was also referred to as famine fever or camp fever referring to military encampments or jail fever. And yet 95% of patients treated for typhus in the Lazaretto hospital walked out of there on their own two feet healthy.
