The great majority of leftist militants were never arrested, nor even questioned. The death sentence was reserved for political crimes involving major violence. Franco wanted to make Spain great again, by which he meant forgetting the entire previous 150 years. He believed firmly that globally, the democratic system is today on the road to collapse.
