One of the essays in this book, Myth America, is written by a historian named Lawrence Glickman. He argues essentially that we have this phrase that we use, particularly when black civil rights movement in the 60s and so on,. When they advance, we say that inevitably the protest, civil rights activism led to a backlash. In reality, it wasn't obvious that the next thing should be banning AP classes in Florida about black history.
