In my novel, a wealthy American girl is about to marry an impoverished italian prince. I kind of emphasize that in my novel much more than in henry james. The trajectory of the novel is the growing awareness, unarticulated, on the part of the young bride, whom i call emily frence, that something is going on, something terrible.
