When theories are easily variable, experimental testing is almost useless for correcting their errors. A person isn't capable of just making progress by being willing to drop a theory when it's refuted. One must also seek a better explanation of the relevant phenomena. This is the scientific frame of mind. And that's all we're trying to do here, priests. We're just trying to seek good explanations.
