How to Capture a Digital Sampler

On the real instrument, when you hold a note for eight seconds and release it, all that quantity of tape has spalled out. In digital sampler speech, it's like having a cosette deck that's always in re wind, but when you press a key, the re wind lets off. When you let go of the note, it whips back. This would be hard to programm. And simply triggering a sound with ta later start point in the digital realm would not capture the fact that on a real chamberlain the new key press is a new contact between the play head and a moving tape.
