A late eighteenth century english invention involved a pane of glass placed over a coffin. The writing was invisible unti until putrefication set in and the gases released from decomposition caused a reaction to make it appear. A physician named cristo wilhelm hufland who built and designed these small chambers known as licken hause, or waiting house.
