Scientism is the view that only things we're allowed to believe in are those that can be demonstrated on the basis of observation and experiments. We know about consciousness in a very different way through our immediate awareness of our own feelings and experiences, if you're in pain, it's just directly there for you. Our official scientific world view cannot accommodate the reality of value - yet I think value is something we encounter.
