The Value of Accreditation
The value of a qualification is explicitly connected to the reputation of the administering body. So for example, if I wanted to declare myself to be a naturopath, which I can do in Australia with absolutely no knowledge whatsoever, I could go down to the dinky naturopath's shack and they'll give me some kind of certificate for money. Now does that mean it has any value? No, it doesn't. You've got a trusted body saying this person is trusted by me. If the body isn't trusted, then the qualification isn't trusted. This gets very difficult of course in emerging areas of emerging disciplines, emerging areas, where people aren't sure what counts as a good
