The Division of Reason and Sentiment

The relation between men and women had become divided along the fundamental division that Wollstonecraft wanted to close up. She felt those two things had to go together, but as the world had organised itself through politics there was a division so that reason was identified with men; feeling, sentiment, sensibility, was identified with women. And what that meant was that men would have to dress up their feelings as though they were reasonable. Women would have to express their search for power, for control, for autonomy in the language of feeling and sentiment. It's mutually corrupting because no one can be true to themselves," she says.
