The Importance of Party Lines

In Warren, New Jersey, which is in the middle of absolutely nowhere, we had a party line. Three out of every four homes in this country, which have telephone service, are on party lines. So they don't think, Oh, that kid broke into the green box and he's listening to people's phone calls. They're just like, Oh, the Lineman sat him here to watch this thing so it doesn't get stolen. And he's going to be back.
