The Blind Leading the Blind

Jesus uses this illustration so perfectly is that if we actually understood how painful it is to remove something from our own eye, we would be very, very gentle. If you actually have gone through the painful experience of a love that cleanses, you will, as gently as possible, lead people into that grace that brings cleansing. But we spend time, we get our center wrong, and then we spend all of our energy on the parameters trying to fix those things. And we never even ask the question, if we get people's performance up to snuff, then we don't even have to ask whether they actually know the Jesus that they say they believe in. Does that make sense?
