I caught this man red handed in the end it all simmered down and this chap got back in his car and they drove off but that caught my attention rather than just sitting there minding my own business in my car. I saw something was going on caught my eye it was a bad thing to do with my eye it caught my attention and so I paid attention to what was going on okay so you might also say I need to catch my breath this is a really common phrase to catch your breath if your breath has been taken away by something then you'll need a moment to catch your breather.
