How to Configure a Rack Without the Network
There are basically three set supports. There's the front-facing ports, the rear-facing ports and two technician ports. And they need to do all sorts of initial configuration so that the control plane will actually boot and be reachable from their internal network. So how do we just physically connect into this thing? It feels like a bit of an inception problem.
Andrew Stone of Oxide Engineering joined Bryan, Adam, and the Oxide Friends to talk about his purpose-built, replay debugger for the Oxide setup textual UI. Andrew borrowed a technique from his extensive work with distributed systems to built a UI that was well-structured... and highly amenable to debuggability. He built a custom debugger "in a weekend"!
