The Guild of the Day - Is There a New Deal Coalition?
The New Deal coalition that runs through the 1970s, you obviously have what Reagan was able to put together ever since then. What do you think is going on there? The rise of these college educated activists in both parties who don't care just about winning elections and want big causes they're devoted to. But I think at least part of the story has to be those permanent establishments of Washington that just tick along even though candidates are really invested in elections.
