You're conveying to the person that you're interested in their opinions, in their thoughts. You want them to know that that's going to build a connection between you and the girl. Here is one of my favorite questions to ask really any like social event or function or anywhere. I love asking that question because what that does is that gives you a lot of good, meaty material to work off of when you're talking to somebody.
