Without generative AI, McKinsey research estimated automation could take over tasks accounting for 21.5% of the hours worked in the US economy by 2030 with it that share has now jumped to 29.5%. People in the two lowest wage quintiles are up to 10 to 14 times more likely to need to change occupations by the end of this decade than the highest earners. They write while our analysis shows a decrease of 1.1 million jobs in the two low wage quintiles by 2030, jobs in the highest wage quintile could grow sharply by 3.8 million.
