The Pros and Cons of Codifying Standards Into Law

Jason: I think there are pros and cons or drawbacks and benefits to each approach. On the European side, on the one hand, by codifying requirements into law, you can achieve a more consistent adoption of what those standards are. On the flip side, in the US, you've seen the business case and use cases evolve in the absence of regulation. So I would say that perhaps the US certainly misses the mark as far as having standards that are clearly codified and required to have mass adoption among all banks.
