The fourth century BC is really the golden age of classical political theory. Many wise men, including Plato, especially thought about Spartan society and considered it among the best models. In Xenophon's eyes in particular, Agisylaeus himself exemplified everything that was good about Sparta. But there were many Greeks who questioned whether Agisyleus and Sparta really were the model for what a Greek or a Greek state should be.
