The Social Contract
The social contract is a concept that his involved a sort of after the enlightenment, and with rousseau to start. The idea was that we had, as people lived collectively, yeu needed some rules that governed that collective, collective living. People now expect more than just military protection from their feudal lords - they also want education and health care. I think the current social contract is broken because of a couple of key things: technology and women's role in society.
