Culture Is Pervasive, Shared and Imperative

In 20 18, i attended a barn storming lecture given by the then editor in chief of the washington post. He told me that newspapers were facing immense challenges. New technology had changed everything and new rivals who didn't have to pay for the old print interastructure were offering cheap, viral news on line. So what did mister barron suggest? Simple. He said, just do our job. And i, a fellow newspaper journalist, thought this to be an inspirational message. The flower of the french nobility would have been proud of us both. But culture, remember, is pervasive, shared and implicit. No wonder it's slow to change.
