The Importance of Probability in Statistics

Kolmogorov: The idea of an average man is the axiom. How does that help probability? We're jumping back in time slightly here actually to sort of early 19th century, he says. It was the first time that probability was being used to make predictions about human behavior and hence was entering the real world. For example, this information was used to start the insurance industry - you want to work out how many people are likely to have a car accident or die at a very early age.
