FDA Food Additive Process
Food companies can self determine grass or determine with experts a grass status without notifying FDA. It's really different from the drug approval process where you are submitting something and then it's being actively reviewed. Food companies don't want to make people sick because that's against their interests, right? They can be sued and we see plenty of litigation over things like this.
