The Three Walls of Evil Doers
Luther called these three walls the course of terrible corruption, a pure invention of popes, bishops and monks by which they deceive us with puppet shows. The first wall luther lays siege to is the pope's claim to have supremacy over all other authorities. It was the responsibility of the christian nobility, luther argued, to be god's ministers in punishing evil doers. Then there was the second wall that luther attacked, the idea that ultimately the pope alone is only one who can definitively and truthfully interpret scripture.
