Hunter Biden's Pre-Trial Diversion
Pre-trial diversion is a thing. It's in the US Attorney's Manual and it is authorized for certain firearms offenses like the one Hunter Biden apparently committed. You can't use pre-trial diversion if somebody brandished or used a firearm during a crime of violence but for erroneously, inaccurately falsely filling out paperwork in pursuit of your purchase of a firearm. So basically the parties were mixing legal apples and oranges in this plea proceeding. They said he's going to formally plead guilty to two tax crimes but then over here we've got this side contract for pre-trial diverttion.
