Why Do We Have a Regulator State?
Rand: Why do we have a regulatory state? I don't know about Sweden, but every time in America, I go into an elevator. And it says this elevator was inspected by a government inspector, and it won't fall. Why? Because those selfish businessmen, if they had the opportunity, would build elevators that killed you. That's what self-interest requires, killing our customers. If they weren't food inspectors, we'd all be poisoned at the restaurants. Your self-interested motivation would kill us, all of us. So we need, because we know business for bad people,. We need a little government agent sitting on their shoulder.
