The Importance of Interviewing Veterans

In 1991, when he was working at the Seattle Post Intelligencer, I really wanted to go out and cover the Pearl Harbor 50th anniversary. 800 members of the Pearl Harbor's Survivors Association live in here in Washington State. So I did. I met some amazing guys. One sailor got five Purple Hearts, four of them in World War II. He managed to get himself shot by a German, an Italian, a Japanese soldier, and a Japanese zero. And so he told me that story. It's quite amazing.
