The Modernist Movement in India

This was a time of intellectual upheaval for Muslims in the subcontinent. Sayyid Ahmad Khan founded Aligarh University to bring westernizing education into India. He saw Islam as what he called a natural religion in perfect harmony with whatever science could deliver. Iqbal believed that nationalism, like the Mongols, had the power to break empires.
