The Innocence of Women

After the Reformation, there was an emphasis on women being pure and innocent. The idea of homemaking as a mark of purity is not only unattainable for most women, but it's also dangerous to them because they can't stay at home all day. In 19th century, prostitutes were charged with having venereal diseases even though they were doing nothing more than supporting their families.
