The Evolution of Witch Hunting

Witch trials peaked in the 14th to 17th century, when religious tension was high. But as Europe developed and modernised fears of witches faded. The Witchcraft Act outlawed accusations that people had magical powers or practiced witchcraft. By 1900 witches could even be the good guys like Glinda from Wizard of Oz. In most recent fiction witches are often neither good nor bad. Harry Potter series is all about wizards and witches.
