The Gnostic Trap

Gnosis is mystical or esoteric knowledge based on direct participation with the divine in most Gnostic systems. The sufficient cause of salvation is this knowledge of or acquaintance with the divine. McCarthy falls a little bit more clearly into the Mannequien camp. He was obsessed with notions of good and evil, but also very much concerned with the fact that physical matter had a demonic undercurrent to it.
