Is There a Conditional Statement?
An argument doesn't represent a conclusion. The argument really, I guess, represents the entailment of the conclusion from the premises or something like that. So the thought might be something... The thought might be if the disciples were lying, they wouldn't have died for their beliefs. That's just the same thing as you in that particular context saying then why would the disciples put to their beliefs, put to death for their beliefs? Like, language is all completely context-dependent. It's about the thought that's being expressed.
