The film obviously has notes of inspiration from films made at the time that this m film takes place. Modern queer audiences kind of watch those scenes and retrospectively be like, if only these characters had actually been gay. Well, regardless of whitch dove, the film never, like, gets it necessarily like, explicit between ou two of them being in any kind of relationship or anything. You get the sense that there is genuine love there between irene and her husband,. And let's face at claire and john, it's a whole ove a different story right there.
