Enlightenment thinkers have been attacked because they've invested, for instance, in one or other of these trades. Adam Smith's views on the slave trade were what? Well, he writes about it in every one of his works. Even though Hume was a racist, he made a robust argument against slavery and the slave trade based precisely on his moral theory of humanity, compassion and empathy.
