Humans evolved in africa from apes. Different waves of human species would leave the continent at different times. Homo sapiens and neanderthals, they were closely related enough that they could breed with each other like lions and tigers do. Our genome shows that we carry on the genetic legacy of those close relatives who are no longer with us.

In times of turmoil, it can be useful to take a longer view of history. Like, a LOT longer.
