The Theory of Einstein Gravitation
In the 19 eighties, it was really unclear whether black holes existed. The theory for a star signus x one was that matter and accretion disk around a black hole spiraled into the black hole. It could have been some neutron star or something like this which wasn't really a true black hole in the einstein relativity sense. But now we know there is no such thing as a 'black hole' - just an object punched out of the universe at the centre.
