"I feel like West Craven in here is saying all of you people have fucked up the beauty that I created with something like Nightmare on Elm Street," he said. "If you don't make the audience care about the victim, what are we even doing here? And that's what the scene is about to me." He also praised actor Matthew Lillard for his performance as a killer who takes up so much physical space from other people.
