The Potential Use of Viruses for Nefarious Objects
We know there will be another pandemic, and it will come from birds or pigs. The purpose of the experiments that were performed with H5 is to understand that so that we can be better prepared. It's possible for people who have full knowledge of a genome sequence of a virus to create it artificially in the laboratory. With appropriate training acquired by reading the literature, people could do that. Then we have to weigh up whether or not we currently have the knowledge that would create a thoroughly dangerous virus of that sort.
