Hugh Vericker: What is that waiting out which we saw in the Beast and the Jungle which James wrote later is it James's closeted self. Perhaps a gay, he perhaps felt but never let emerge what he's blocked somehow repressed,. He was still reeling from the deaths of his sister Alice in 1892 to Constance Fennimore Wilson in 1894.
