The Halo Effect
Being born into money, belonging to the majority community and being a straight man remain greater determinants of success than any truly personal talents or abilities. In psychology, the so called halo effect is that phenomenon whereby a single successful attribute riches, intelligence, pulcritude, charm, blinds every one else to an individual's obvious defects. This is why study after study proves that better looking people get the better jobs, while rich ones are endlessly deferred to. The recommitment must always be to those forces, or political parties, or companies, or even individual films, theatre productions and books that have already proved successful.
