The Subjection of Women
Mill is remembered a day more for his book on liberty than his women's rights campaigning. He argues that we live in a society organised around principles of competition rather than birth. What you do in life, who you become isn't any longer supposed to be dictated by your birth. And if that's the case, he argues, we ought to act as if we believe it. We are basically depriving ourselves of half our store of times.
