The Dreams of Tchaikovsky

In a typical symphony, a minor key synodiform movement, there are two or more contrasting themes in the so-called exposition. Tchaikovsky instead gives us a theme in a flat minor - one of the absolute darkest keys out there due to how many flats there are in the key signature. All the same, that dream-like quality is there and the way the accompaniment meanders around. It almost feels catatonic, with only that limping waltz rhythm helping us along.
