Gentile was an awkward figure because obviously he was a fascist. He was still a sort of formidable philosopher in his own right. And what that means for his place in the in the history of philosophy is another question. For him, thought is sort of forced by the real. This is kind of Lara Well, as the Lizzian moment where thought doesn't think the real, but the real gives rise to thought in its foreclosure.
