Fiji's Supreme Court cleared the US to take the Amadea a nearly 350 foot luxury ship earlier today. The FBI went to great lengths to try to track down evidence proving their case that this was indeed owned by a sanctioned Russian super yacht. Its departure from the country marks the end of weeks of ongoing US efforts to seize the 300 million dollar vessel.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, the US and other Western nations have imposed economic sanctions on scores of Russian billionaires close to President Vladimir Putin. They’ve also gone after their assets–including the enormous yachts prized by billionaires the world over.
