CHAPTER

The Sixth Dimension Model of National Culture

The first four dimensions originated with the i b m data gathered in the late sixties and early seventies. The fifth dimension came in the early 19 eighties in collaboration with a canadian social psychologist named michael bond, who was working in hong kong. It also helped to dress the relative lack of good data from asia in previous surveys. The sixthdimension is called indulgence versus restraint. There is some overlap between these six dimensions and some of the ideas we talked about in last week's episode. But it's important to acknowledge that no culture is a monolith.
