Are We Splitting Hairs as Far as CHIP Manufacturing?

In terms of CHIP manufacturing in China, there are multiple generations behind Taiwan. Until last year, China could access the most advanced AI CHIPs so long as it promised to use them for civilian purposes. And we had lots of great open source information about ways that Chinese firms would claim they're using them for civilians and then repurpose them for military purposes. Now it's illegal to transfer certain types of CHIPs, especially ones focused on AI to China. But I think this is not a secret weapon that can really dramatically hold back the Chinese computing industry. It'll hurt them.
