The Importance of Penal Substitution in the Gospel

John Sutter says he believes in penal substitutionary atonement. It's a Western emphasis on the atonement that says, Christ was punished in the place of sinners by God. But Eastern Orthodox thinkers will just out of hand reject it and offer something more like healing type atonement than courtroom justice type atonement.
