Marijuana is listed on the Controlled Substances Act as a Schedule 1 drug, meaning that it has no accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. The disparity of who was actually using weed and who was getting arrested for weed really became stark in the 70s and 80s when the war on drugs ramped up.
